How to Destroy Angels – EP Review

02/06/2010 Leave a comment

There was much speculation as to what would come next, as Nine Inch Nails frontman and sole official member Trent Reznor posted his thoughts about the future of Nine Inch Nails on NIN.com, stating that it was time to make NIN disappear for a while. So as NIN went around the world on the ‘Wave Goodbye’ tour, it was unclear where Reznor was headed. Reznor indicated on the NIN’s website that he was continuing work on NIN and other projects after the Wave Goodbye tour.

As a result, Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig and Atticus Ross formed the new band ‘How to Destroy Angels. After several teaser clips and a single release, the band released their debut 6 track EP for free download on June 1st 2010 via the bands website www.howtodestroyangels.com.

Straight off I really like the EP and the sound of the band. I think it would be pretty hard to be a fan of NIN and not enjoy this new venture. However, there are some familiar similarities between NIN and How to Destroy Angels, but also some differences. The most obvious difference being that Reznor’s wife is now lead vocalist. I enjoy how her subdued singing style compliment the music and make a bit of an eerie creepy tone throughout some of the songs. The music will remind you of NIN but i think if you would place these songs on previous NIN albums they may feel out of place, hence making How to Destroy angels something familiar but also very refreshing and new.

At only 6 tracks the EP is merely a tease of what is in store for the band, with a full lenght LP being rumored to drop sometime in 2011.

I rate the EP 4/5

Marilyn Manson – Apple of Sodom Video Released

29/11/2009 Leave a comment

More than 10 years after Marilyn Manson recorded the song ‘Apple of Sodom’ for the Lost Highway movie soundtrack, the video clip for the song has been released by the clips director Joseph Cultice. The clip was shot after the bands Antichrist svperstar era and just before the band launched the Mechanical Animals era, which the transition is somewhat evident in this film clip.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen – Blu Ray review

Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen Blu-ray

When i first watched the blu ray of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, that was in fact my first viewing of this movie. I did not end up going to see this at the cinemas, and it was probably for the best that i didn’t. Not that i thought this movie was all bad, but the main problem i had with the movie was its length.  At 149 minutes, i kind of felt it hard at times to stay focused whilst watching this movie. Another complaint about the movie is that every scene is pretty much a huge action sequence.  This is very typical from Director Michael Bay, but at times it did seem just too much to watch and absorb, due to the screen being filled with explosions of all colors and the fast paced mayhem of the robots fighting.

To put it simply, Transformers 2 is a full on action packed extravaganza. If fast paced action, explosions and fighting  is what you’re into, then you will probably enjoy this movie.  The movie did have a good feel of humor about it, as well as great acting performances from Shia Lebouf John Turturro,Kevin Dunn and Julie White, who all return from the first movie. As for the plot, it is probably hard to stay focused on due to the amount of action, but there is story there if you can looks past all the bright lights. I did find the back story of the robots quite entertaining, and certain scenes of the movie are visually quite amazing. Obviously if your a die hard Transformers fan, this movie will be for you, with a whole heap of new Autobots and Decepticons making an appearance than what was introduced in the first movie.

The blu ray version of this movie, does come jammed packed with special features, which is always good to have to go along with the main feature. Overall i did enjoy the movie, not as much as the first one, but it is Transformers, so it can be expected that it is going to be extreme. I rate it 7/10.

Michael Jackson’s This is it Movie Review

04/11/2009 Leave a comment

So i have seen Michael Jackson’s ‘This is it’ twice now and i am still left amazed by it. I am by no means an obsessed Jackson fan, but i have always enjoyed his music and thought that he was a gifted and talented performer. This movie completely justifies my thoughts and should to anyone who watches it. The most refreshing aspect about the movie is the fact that it is entirely focused on Michael Jackson’s music, and not of any truths or allegations surrounding his personal life.

The movie documents the auditioning, planning, and rehearsing of the show, which was meant to be Michael’s big ‘final curtain call’. What you see in this movie is a pure musical genius and exceptional performer at work. Taking into account that all the footage is of rehearsal material and not actual show performance, naturally you are not going to see a hundred percent put into the performances. Don’t let that turn you off, because what you see and hear Michael do, is quite amazing, especially for a man who was 50 years of age.

‘This is it’ is a great insight into the preparation and planning of a music show, aswell as a excellent insight to just how big these shows were going to be. For the entirety of the movie, to me at least, you see Michael, nothing but focused on rehearsing to make sure the show is the best it can be. He seemed quite at peace, very happy, and well into the zone of what needed to be done to make this what his fans wanted.

On a final note, if you are even the slightest Michael Jackson fan, this is a must see movie. I don’t see how anybody viewing this can be disappointed, except from the fact that michael died tragically before he could share once more with the world his unique and gifted talents.

It has begun

This is all very new to me, but something i am very much excited and eager to attempt. This is going to be a place where i can express my opinions and reviews of the things that i enjoy in life. Specifically, it will revolve around Movie and DVD, music, games, graphic novels and t.v. show reviews, and maybe the occasional random item i find interesting.

I’ve always been passionate about these things that i enjoy in life, but never really shared my views with many people.

Now i feel is the time to change that.

As i write this i have just come back from seeing Michael Jackson’s ‘This is it’, so i am looking forward to sharing my views on that movie. i will hopefully have that up in the next day or two, so see you then.
